RE: MANAGEMENT UPDATE – INTERNAL MANAGEMENT CHANGES
Following the decision of management and the Board, I wish to communicate that
the following internal management changes have been made effective October 1
2019:
Hillary Siata will be moving back to Head Office as Project Manager – Tertiary
Sales reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer to spearhead the growth of our
Tertiary Segment. In his previous role as Country Manager, he was instrumental
in steadying the Uganda business whose performance has started declining.
Consequently, Charles SSeruwu will take on the role of Country Manager in acting
capacity reporting to Chief Commercial Officer. Prior to this appointment, Charles
has been the Project Lead supporting Hillary on the turnaround strategy of the
Ugnada business. He will also continue to hold his role as Country Manager –
Rwanda.
Simon Kasirye will be leaving the company as his contract has come to an end.
Dorah Namayanja will therefore handle the on-going publishing projects going
forward and will report to the Head of Publishing. We are grateful to Simon for
services he rendered to Longhorn Publishers and wish him well in his future
endeavors.
Kindly accord them the support they require to succedd in their new roles. We
have every confidence in their ability to execute their mandate.

and Language Services for the Eastern & Central African region, with subsidiaries in Tanzania, Uganda and

  3. Senior Software Developer
    • Digital Publishing Department.
    • Reporting to the Head of IT & Product Development.
    Summary:
    The holder of this role will be responsible to the Head of IT & Product Development with the chief responsibility
    of developing and maintaining the Digital Publishing department’s technology assets and portfolio.
    Principal Accountabilities:
    • Write clean, scalable and testable code on a known framework.
    • Design, document and implement an architecture suitable for all the digital products to scale.
    • Scouting the market for talent, recruiting, hiring and onboarding.
    • Lead and mentor a team of in-house software developers to build world-class digital products.
    • Design and develop a software development process that will be implemented on all software development
    projects.
    • Managing and deployment of staging, pre-production and production environments that ensure release
    of quality products.
    • Managing technical debt for all digital products.
    • Running scrums and sprints together with Product Associate.
    • Manage platform costs as per specified budget.
    • Technical reporting on platform performance and technical teams.
    Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent degree.
    • 3+ years working experience as a senior software developer.
    • Experience in developing for Web, SMS, USSD and IVR applications.
    • Active involvement in at least 1 open source project.
    Skills & Competencies:
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Experience with git.
    • Deep understanding of architecture design for scale.
    • Strong DevOps experience.

    • Project management experience.
    • Ability to work in an agile environment.

    • Good knowledge of MySQL and Firebase database systems.
    • Hands-on experience in configuring and maintaining Google Cloud Platform based applications.
    • Possess personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and commitment to the company’s mission.
    • Demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and guiding investment in people and systems.
    • Negotiation, analytical, presentation & communication skills and attention to detail.
  4. UI/UX Designer
    • Digital Publishing Department.
    • Reporting to the Head of IT & Product Development.
    Summary:
    The holder of this role will be responsible to the Head of IT & Product Development to turn our software into
    a pleasant experience for our customers and grow our customer base.
    Principal Accountabilities:
    • Gather and evaluate user requirements together with the product and engineering team.
    • Visualize design ideas using storyboards and conversion funnels.
    • Design UI elements, mockups and prototypes.
    • Prepare and present proposals to key stakeholders.
    • Troubleshoot UX challenges (e.g. responsiveness).
    • Conduct layout adjustments based on user feedback.
    • Adhere to style standards on fonts, colors and images as per brand guideline.
    Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree in design, communications, computer science, or related field.
    • Familiarity with coding languages and specialized software programs.
    • Proven work experience as a UI/UX Designer.
    • Knowledge of wireframe tools such as InVision and design software like Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
    • A strong portfolio of projects on both web and mobile products.
    Skills & Competencies:
    • Strong communication skills.
    • Excellent time-management.
    • Ready for a challenge.
